Tom and Samye's daughter, Jodi, bought the company and took over operations when Samye left to become the first woman in history to be elected as San Augustine County Judge.
Like her family that started the company, Jodi hit the ground running and quickly saw the potential the little cookie company had to change the opportunities for local residents and improve the economy in their small community. She added additional flavors to the line of cookies and developed what has been said to be one of the healthiest breakfast bars on the market.
Following research that cumulatively took months, Jodi envisioned the future plan for Pinto Pony Cookie Factory and set to work to make the vision come true. After reviewing the plans and vision with local businessman and friend Mike Jackson, the pair "partnered up" as we say in Texas, and the company is now in the first phase of its expansion plan.
Jodi's vision kicked in again as Pinto Pony Cookie Factory opened their first restaurant in October, serving a unique blend of healthy food, generous hospitality and comfortable surroundings. People come literally from miles around for the uniquely delicious food. The restaurant has been so successful, they moved their cookie and gift showroom into the beautifully remodeled historic building on the historic courthouse square overlooking downtown San Augustine.
In keeping with their vision, Pinto Pony Cookie Factory purchased 107 beautiful acres for their Campus on Hwy 96 just south of town where soon there will be a state of the art cookie factory, a retail center, restaurant, lodging facilities, a bottling plant and more. When complete, Pinto Pony Cookie Factory will become one of the largest employers in their part of Texas.
The Treats: Delicious & Nutritious
When Pinto Pony Cookie Factory opened its doors in 2007, we had five delicious oatmeal cookie recipes and a vision of building something fun and inviting to offer local residents and the many visitors who come here to enjoy our Texas history and the genuine hospitality of San Augustine.
The company now has 11 original flavored cookies, nine Bittie Bite cookies and five breakfast bars. Never one to rest on her accomplishments, Jodi has developed three different pies, pie crust, a gluten free line of cookies, breakfast bars, pies and pie crusts as well as a sugar free line of products all of which will be available in the third quarter of 2013.
We are Growing
For now, we are nestled deep in the magnificent Pineywoods of East Texas — one block North of Texas State Highway 21, also known as the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail (or Kings Highway)! When we move to the Campus, we will take with us that Texas pioneer spirit that was so evident as those early settlers trod along The Kings Highway.
The restaurant has seen such enormous success with its unique menu, comfortable surroundings and friendly service that it is set to open additional locations throughout Texas over the next two years.
